CRPF Soldier Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run on Pune-Solapur Highway
A tragic incident unfolded on the Pune-Solapur Highway in Indapur, Pune district, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan who was returning home on leave. The hit-and-run accident has left the community in shock, with authorities launching a probe to identify the vehicle involved.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The accident occurred around 11 pm on February 8 in Loni Devkar village along the Pune-Solapur Highway. The deceased has been identified as Mahadev Dada Nazirkar, a native of Maradewadi Rui village in Indapur taluka, who was posted in Mumbai. According to police reports, Nazirkar sustained multiple critical injuries and is believed to have died on the spot.
Inspector Vilas Nale of the Indapur Police Station provided insights into the incident. "Our initial investigation reveals that Nazirkar was traveling by bus while on leave. He missed his stop after falling asleep and got down at a distance, walking back towards his destination. While crossing the road, he was hit by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene, causing fatal injuries," stated Inspector Nale.
Family and Community Response
In a heartbreaking twist, Nazirkar's father was just a few hundred metres away, on his way to pick him up, when the accident occurred. He reached the spot within minutes as Nazirkar was being transported to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The family is now grappling with the loss, as Nazirkar is survived by his parents, wife, son, and daughter.
The last rites were performed in Maradewadi Rui on Monday, attended by a large gathering of villagers, family members, and local officials. Police and CRPF personnel paid their respects by laying wreaths on his mortal remains, honoring his service and sacrifice.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Actions
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Indapur Police Station, and authorities are actively working to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. "We have launched a comprehensive probe to trace the vehicle and bring the perpetrator to justice," added Inspector Nale. The case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on busy highways like the Pune-Solapur route.
This incident underscores the risks faced by individuals traveling on Indian roads, even those serving in protective forces. The community and authorities continue to mourn the loss while seeking answers in this tragic event.
