Daylight Shooting Rocks Daltonganj Tea Stall, Two Men Injured

A shocking broad daylight shooting occurred at a tea stall in Daltonganj on Thursday morning. The violent incident left two men with bullet wounds, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Attack Unfolds at Busy Tea Stall

Around 9:30 am, a man entered Ajit Mehta's tea stall located in Kandu Mohalla, within ward 19 of Medininagar Municipal Corporation. The assailant patiently waited for customers to leave the premises before making his move.

He then pulled out a firearm and targeted Navin, a former mukhiya of Kandu Mohalla panchayat. The bullet struck Navin in the back before exiting his body. A stray bullet also hit tea stall owner Ajit Mehta in his left leg during the chaotic shooting.

Victims Receive Medical Treatment

Both injured men received immediate medical attention following the attack. Jyoti Lal Rajwar, the officer-in-charge of Town police station, confirmed that Ajit Mehta underwent treatment at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital.

"Mehta is currently out of danger," Rajwar stated. Navin, however, required admission to a private hospital in town for more serious injuries sustained during the shooting.

Police Investigation Underway

Police officials quickly responded to the scene and began their investigation. DSP Sadar Rajeev Ranjan clarified the intended target of the attack.

"The main target was Navin. Mehta got hit by a stray bullet," Ranjan explained. Police recovered two empty cartridges from the crime scene as evidence.

While authorities remained cautious about discussing motives publicly, sources suggested the shooting might relate to upcoming civic body elections. Navin's wife serves as a former ward commissioner and could potentially contest in the polls.

Shooter Identified, Motive Probed

Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan provided crucial information about the perpetrator. "The assailant is known to Navin. Police will soon nab him," Ramesan assured the public.

Despite identifying the shooter, police had not filed a formal FIR until late evening on Thursday. Investigators continue working to determine the exact motive behind the violent attack.

Preliminary findings suggest the shooting resulted from personal enmity. The brazen nature of the daytime attack in a public place has raised concerns about public safety in the area.
