An Indian-origin gas station owner in Ontario, Sukhwinder Kandhola, has reported facing significant personal attacks and online harassment after contaminated fuel was discovered at his Eso gas station. The incident, which involved water mixing with gasoline, has led to community backlash and emotional distress for Kandhola and his family.

Unintentional Incident Sparks Misinformation Campaign

Kandhola emphasized to CTV News that the contamination was accidental. "We didn't do this on purpose," he stated. "Some people are spreading this misinformation, which is not correct. It just happened. We don't know still why it happened. And how the water got into the gas." He explained that an engineering company is currently investigating the root cause of the problem.

The situation escalated when customers began complaining on the evening of March 23 that their vehicles would not start after refueling at his station. Kandhola immediately called technicians, who confirmed the presence of water in the fuel supply. In response, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority ordered the temporary shutdown of the gas station until the issue is fully resolved.

Customers Affected and Community Impact

Among those affected was Lindsay Fitzgerald, whose two-year-old Subaru failed to start after filling up at Kandhola's station. A mechanic discovered that her fuel tank contained more than 50 percent water. Fortunately, after flushing out the contaminated fuel, her vehicle sustained no permanent damage.

Kandhola confirmed that a total of 18 vehicles were impacted by the incident. He has proactively contacted all affected customers to inform them that his insurance company is involved and will be reaching out shortly to address compensation and repairs.

Mental Health Toll and Social Media Backlash

The fallout from the contamination has extended beyond financial concerns, taking a severe emotional toll on Kandhola and his family. "Some people are trying to defame us and going on social media and putting bad comments," he revealed. "It's taking a toll on our mental health. Our kids are reading those comments. We are part of this community. We have been here for eight years."

Kandhola expressed deep concern about losing the trust of local customers, who are vital to his business. "We don't want to lose our customers," he said. "We are really relying on these local people. They're our bread and butter in the wintertime, especially when things slow down."

As the investigation continues to determine how water entered the fuel supply, Kandhola remains committed to transparency and rectifying the situation. The gas station will remain closed until all safety standards are met and the contamination source is identified and fixed.
