In a chilling revelation days after the high-intensity explosion near the Red Fort metro station, investigative sources have uncovered a massive terror plot. The suspects allegedly planned to prepare approximately 32 old vehicles with explosives to carry out coordinated attacks across multiple locations, sending shockwaves through the nation's security apparatus.
Bomber Identified and Modus Operandi
The Delhi Police confirmed a major breakthrough, identifying the man who carried out the car blast on November 10. Forensic DNA testing conclusively matched his biological sample with that of his mother, confirming the deceased as Dr Umar Un Nabi. A senior police officer stated that after the explosion, Umar's leg was found trapped between the steering wheel and the accelerator, indicating he was driving the vehicle when it detonated. The blast claimed at least 12 lives.
Unraveling the Extensive Terror Conspiracy
Intelligence agency sources revealed that the accused had already begun modifying an i20 and an EcoSport vehicle for the attacks. The red Ford EcoSport, registered in Umar's name and suspected to have been used for reconnaissance, was later seized in Faridabad's Khandawali area.
Security agencies made critical recoveries, including diaries from accused individuals Dr Umar and Dr Muzammil. These diaries, found in their respective rooms, contained code words and mentioned dates from November 8 to 12, indicating the planning phase for the incident. The diaries also listed around 25 individuals, mostly from Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad, pointing to a well-planned conspiracy.
Investigators uncovered that the group intended to carry out serial blasts at four different locations. Around eight suspects planned to move in pairs to four cities, with each group carrying multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for simultaneous attacks.
Funding, Communication, and Ideological Links
The terror module had jointly raised approximately ₹20 lakh in cash, which was handed over to Umar Nabi for operational expenses. A significant portion was used to procure over 20 quintals of NPK fertiliser worth around ₹3 lakh from Gurugram, Nuh, and adjoining areas. This fertiliser was intended for preparing IEDs, though a money dispute reportedly arose between Umar and Dr Muzammil.
For secure coordination, Umar created a group on the encrypted Signal app, comprising two to four members. The investigation further revealed that Dr Muzammil became inclined towards Ansar Gazwat-Ul-Hind, an ISIS offshoot, between 2021 and 2022 after contact with associates of slain terrorists, facilitated by one Irfan, alias Maulvi. Weapons recovered in 2023 and 2024 are believed to have been acquired by this module as part of their preparation for forming an independent terror group.
Among those under scrutiny are individuals linked to past terror cases, including Red Fort blast accused Dr Muzammil, Dr Adeel, and Shaheen. The Delhi Police is continuing its investigation, having sent a total of 21 biological samples to the FSL for analysis as the death toll in this tragic case rises to 12.
