Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed on Monday that a severe explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the iconic Red Fort in Delhi. The high-intensity blast resulted in significant casualties and property damage during the evening rush hour.

Immediate Response and Investigation

The explosion took place around 7 pm near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, according to the Delhi Fire Department. Within just 10 minutes of receiving information about the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations.

Home Minister Amit Shah stated, "I will be heading to the spot shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately". He emphasized that the government is exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking every potential angle into account.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

The powerful explosion in the parked Hyundai i20 car left at least eight people dead and injured several pedestrians. The blast triggered a fire that quickly spread to nearby vehicles, leaving multiple cars charred and damaged.

Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives, while the exact number of injured is still being determined. Emergency services rushed the victims to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Comprehensive Security Response

The National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), have now begun a detailed investigation at the blast site. Authorities have ordered the examination of all nearby CCTV cameras to gather evidence and identify potential suspects.

The Delhi Commissioner of Police and Special Branch in-charge are personally present at the spot overseeing the investigation. Home Minister Shah confirmed he has spoken with both officials and assured that all options will be investigated immediately, with results to be presented to the public.

The Union Home Minister reiterated the government's commitment to a transparent and thorough probe, stating that the investigation will explore every possible angle behind this tragic incident that has shaken the national capital.
