Major Explosion Rocks Delhi's Historic Red Fort Area
A devastating car explosion shook the capital city on Wednesday evening, claiming eight lives and leaving twenty-four people injured near the iconic Red Fort. The blast occurred at approximately 7 pm near the Subhash Marg traffic signal, sending shockwaves through one of Delhi's most historic locations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the tragic incident, revealing that the explosion involved a Hyundai i20 vehicle. The powerful blast not only caused significant casualties but also damaged multiple vehicles in the vicinity and injured several pedestrians who were in the area at the time.
Immediate Response and Investigation Launched
According to Home Minister Shah, emergency response was swift and comprehensive. Within just ten minutes of the incident being reported, specialized teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations.
The investigation has now been taken over by elite national agencies, with the National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) leading the probe. Forensic Science Laboratory experts have also joined the investigation team to collect and analyze evidence from the blast site.
Senior police officials, including the Delhi Commissioner of Police, are personally supervising the operation on the ground. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to piece together the events leading up to the explosion and identify potential suspects.
Government Assurance and Ongoing Developments
Home Minister Shah emphasized that the government is exploring all possibilities regarding the cause of the explosion. "We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account," he stated during his initial briefing.
The Home Minister has since left for Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital to meet with those injured in the blast and assess their medical condition. He is expected to provide a more detailed statement to the media following his hospital visit.
While preliminary reports indicate several fatalities, authorities are awaiting final confirmation as rescue and recovery operations continue. The Home Minister assured the public that verified findings would be shared transparently once the investigation progresses.
The area around Red Fort metro station remains cordoned off as investigation teams work meticulously to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion that has left the nation in mourning.
