A Delhi-based builder has been booked by the Ludhiana police for allegedly duping a local trader of Rs 3 crore in a land deal. The accused, identified as Rajesh Gupta, a resident of Dwarka, Delhi, promised the victim prime agricultural plots in Ludhiana but failed to deliver the property.
Case Details
According to the complaint filed by the trader, Surinder Kumar, he came in contact with Gupta through a common friend in 2021. Gupta claimed to have developed a residential colony near Ludhiana and offered plots at attractive rates. Kumar paid Rs 3 crore in installments over several months, but Gupta neither transferred the plots nor returned the money.
Legal Action
After repeated delays and false assurances, Kumar approached the police. The Ludhiana police registered a case under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code at the Division Number 3 police station. Investigations are underway, and efforts are being made to trace the accused.
Police officials have urged other victims to come forward if they have been cheated by the same builder. The case highlights the need for due diligence in property transactions.
