Delhi Cafe Shooting: Suspect Confesses in Viral Video, Cites Past Assault as Motive
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across the capital, a 24-year-old man was brutally shot dead at a cafe in Northeast Delhi's Maujpur area on Friday night. The case took a dramatic turn when a purported video of one of the suspects went viral on social media, where he is heard confessing to the crime and revealing his motive.
Viral Video Confession and Police Investigation
According to the Delhi Police, the firing incident was reported around 10:28 pm at Mr. King Lounge and Cafe. Teams from the Welcome police station immediately rushed to the spot. The victim, identified as Faizan alias Fazzi, a resident of Welcome, was found injured at the scene. He was swiftly shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Hours after the shooting, a video clip surfaced online, widely shared across various platforms. In this clip, one of the murder suspects, identified as Moin Qureshi, is heard saying, "Four to five months ago, he raised his hand on me, which is why I killed him." Another version of his statement in the video includes, "He hit me months ago, that's why I killed him." The police have confirmed that the suspects are currently absconding and the viral video is being actively probed as a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.
Conflicting Claims: Loan Dispute vs. Personal Vendetta
The case is mired in conflicting narratives. The family of the victim, Faizan, has alleged that the killing was a result of a dispute over a loan. Speaking to reporters at the crime scene, the victim's brother, Salman, claimed that the murder followed a disagreement over a loan of Rs 40,000. "My brother was a very simple man. He had taken out a loan, and when he could not repay it, a father and son came to our house and started fighting. We had even filed a complaint at Bhajanpura police station earlier, but nothing happened," Salman stated.
He further elaborated on the brutality of the attack, alleging, "My brother was shot three times, but the police said that two rounds were fired. One bullet hit him in the head and went right through, and two hit him in the chest. He was also probably stabbed. He had cuts on his hands, so he must have struggled a lot." The family also implicated the father of the suspect, Moin Qureshi, in the murder.
However, in the viral video, Moin Qureshi countered these claims. He asserted, "My father has nothing to do with this, I killed him. Someone told me that he was at the cafe...no one from my family nor my friends played a role in this, nor did I kill him on someone else's orders..there was no monetary issue between us." This statement directly contradicts the family's allegations, pointing instead to a personal vendetta stemming from the past assault mentioned in his confession.
Police Response and Forensic Efforts
The Delhi Police have registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the Welcome police station. Officers have stated that all allegations and the circumstances leading to the shooting are being thoroughly verified as part of the investigation.
To piece together the sequence of events, a forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence from the cafe and its surroundings. Additionally, CCTV footage from the area is being meticulously analysed. Teams have been deployed to conduct raids at suspected locations, and local informers are being activated to gather leads and track down the absconding suspects.
Family's Plea for Justice and Allegations of Apathy
The victim's family is distraught and demanding swift action. Salman emphasized, "We just want justice. We want both the father and son to be arrested and the strictest possible action taken against them. The police say they are on the run." The victim's mother echoed these sentiments, alleging police apathy in the aftermath of the tragedy. She lamented, "My child is dead, and no one is helping us. I am already unwell, and now I have lost my young son. Where do I go?"
As the investigation unfolds, the Delhi Police are working to reconcile the conflicting accounts and bring the perpetrators to justice. The viral video confession has added a complex layer to the case, highlighting the role of social media in modern crime reporting and investigation.
