Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Two Lives in West Delhi

In a devastating incident that has shocked the capital, two pedestrians lost their lives after being struck by a car in West Delhi's Moti Nagar area. The tragic event occurred on Wednesday, when a vehicle hit two men and fled the scene, leaving the victims critically injured.

Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run Case

After intensive investigation, Delhi Police apprehended Sumit Kumar, a 20-year-old resident of Sonipat in Haryana, on Friday in connection with the fatal accident. The arrest came following crucial evidence gathered by investigating officers.

According to police officials, the breakthrough in the case came when the vehicle's owner, Sanjay Kumar, appeared before investigators and made a startling revelation. He confessed that his son, Sumit, had been driving the car at the time of the unfortunate incident.

Multiple Legal Charges Filed

During interrogation, Sumit Kumar admitted to driving the vehicle during the accident. When authorities asked him to produce his driving licence and vehicle insurance documents, he failed to provide either, revealing he had been operating the vehicle illegally.

The police have registered the case under sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, investigators have invoked Section 3 and 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act against Sumit for driving without a valid licence.

In a significant development, legal action has also been initiated against the vehicle owner, Sanjay Kumar. Police confirmed that since Sanjay had permitted his son to drive the car despite knowing about the lack of valid licence and insurance, sections 5 and 180 along with sections 146 and 196 of the Motor Vehicles Act have been invoked against him as well.

Victims Succumb to Injuries

The two men who were struck by the vehicle suffered severe injuries in the accident. The victims have been identified as a 48-year-old resident of Anand Parbat and a 74-year-old man from Zakhira. Despite being rushed to RML Hospital for emergency treatment, both pedestrians succumbed to their injuries during medical care.

Police revealed that the car involved in the accident was later found abandoned at the spot, indicating the driver's attempt to evade responsibility. The investigation team worked tirelessly to trace the vehicle owner and identify the actual driver at the time of the incident.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and all necessary legal proceedings are being followed meticulously. The case highlights the grave consequences of irresponsible driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder about road safety and the devastating impact that driving without proper documentation can have on innocent lives. The Delhi Police have assured that they will continue their thorough investigation to ensure complete justice is served in this case.
