Police have registered a case of negligence after a 26-year-old man drowned in the swimming pool of a private school in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh area on Wednesday evening. The deceased, identified as Rahul Roy, a resident of Jharoda village, had gone to the pool with three friends.
Incident Details and Police Response
According to police, they received information from Tarak Hospital about a man who had drowned while swimming at the school pool. A team rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared Rahul Roy dead on arrival. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Wednesday.
Rahul was accompanied by three friends — Suraj Singh, Tarun Kumar and Bhavishya. After he drowned, his friends and others present at the spot rushed him to the hospital. A police officer stated that the exact sequence of events leading to the drowning is under investigation.
Investigation and Legal Action
Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. No arrests have been made so far. The body has been sent to the mortuary of Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital for post-mortem.
Authorities inspected the swimming pool and surrounding area. Statements of Rahul's friends and other witnesses are being recorded. Investigators are also trying to determine whether adequate safety measures were in place at the swimming facility at the time of the incident.
