Delhi Police Crack Down on Chain-Snatching Ring After Brutal CR Park Assault

In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have apprehended two serial chain-snatchers and a jeweller following a violent attack on a woman in south Delhi's Chittaranjan Park. The swift action comes days after the harrowing incident, which left the 40-year-old victim injured after she resisted the snatching attempt.

Coordinated Raids Lead to Arrests of Notorious Accused

The primary accused, identified as Ravi (43) and Rishu (46), were arrested during coordinated police raids conducted in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Both individuals have a lengthy criminal history, with each involved in ten previous cases of chain-snatching and related offences. Their capture marks a crucial step in curbing such crimes in the capital.

In addition to the snatchers, the police have also nabbed a jeweller and a middleman named Monu, who allegedly facilitated the sale of the stolen chain. This highlights the organized nature of the crime, extending beyond the immediate act of snatching to include a network for disposing of stolen goods.

Details of the Violent Incident Emerge

The attack occurred around 4 PM on Sunday near Bangiya Samaj, close to Market No. 1 in Chittaranjan Park. CCTV footage from the scene reveals a chilling sequence of events. The victim was walking along the road when a man, with his face covered and wearing a helmet, began following her. Another accomplice, also helmeted, waited ahead on a motorcycle.

Moments later, the trailing assailant lunged at the woman, grabbing her by the neck and hair in an attempt to snatch her jewellery. He then dragged her across the road to a corner, pushed her to the ground, and repeatedly attacked her with a sharp weapon while physically assaulting her. After the brutal assault, the attacker walked to the waiting motorcycle, and both fled the spot.

Police Investigation and Recovery Efforts

According to police statements, the accused admitted that the woman resisted the snatching, prompting their violent response. The investigation has led to the recovery of some parts of the stolen items, though full details are still emerging as the case progresses. Authorities are continuing to probe the broader network involved in such crimes.

This incident underscores the growing concern over chain-snatching in urban areas and the severe risks faced by victims who resist. The arrests demonstrate Delhi Police's commitment to tackling such offences through coordinated efforts across state lines.
