A shocking incident of arson was reported from Dabwali town in Sirsa district, where a youth allegedly set fire to a shop after the owner refused to provide goods on credit. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, has sent ripples of fear through the local business community.

The accused, identified as 22-year-old Ravi Kumar, a resident of the same locality, entered the shop of Sunil Kumar around 10 pm. He demanded groceries and other items on credit, but the shopkeeper declined, citing past unpaid dues. Enraged, Ravi allegedly threatened the shopkeeper and left. Minutes later, he returned with a can of petrol, poured it on the shop's front, and ignited it. The fire quickly spread, engulfing the shutters and damaging goods worth lakhs of rupees.
Response and Investigation
Local residents and the shopkeeper rushed to douse the flames and alerted the fire brigade. Fire tenders arrived promptly and brought the blaze under control after an hour of effort. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the shop was closed for the night. Police from Dabwali station reached the spot and registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including arson and criminal intimidation.
Station House Officer (SHO) Dabwali, Inspector Surinder Singh, confirmed that Ravi Kumar has been arrested and is being interrogated. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused had a history of petty disputes with the shopkeeper over credit. The police are also checking if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
