In a crucial development in the Delhi Red Fort explosion investigation, authorities are collecting DNA samples from the mother of prime suspect Umar Nabi in Pulwama to establish a definitive link with unidentified bodies recovered from the blast site.
The Critical DNA Match
Official sources have confirmed to The Indian Express that biological samples are being obtained from Umar Nabi's mother in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. These samples will undergo DNA profiling and be compared with unidentified remains currently held at Delhi's Lok Nayak Hospital.
This forensic procedure becomes essential in blast investigations where victims' bodies are often mutilated beyond visual recognition. The DNA matching could conclusively determine whether Umar Nabi perished in the explosion or remains at large.
Pulwama Connection and Family Verification
When journalists visited Nabi's residence in Koil village, Pulwama, only his sister-in-law was present. Family members and local officials confirmed that his mother had been taken for DNA sample collection.
Umar Nabi is suspected to be the individual seen in CCTV footage driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded near Red Fort. The Jammu and Kashmir Police consider him the prime suspect in the bombing case.
Faridabad Terror Module Bust
Investigators believe the explosion is connected to the same transnational and interstate module that was busted in Faridabad recently. In a significant seizure, police had recovered 358 kg of explosives, suspected to be ammonium nitrate, from the rented Faridabad residence of Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganai.
Both Umar Nabi and Dr Ganai share more than just their hometown of Koil village in Pulwama. Official records indicate both men were employed at Al Falah University's School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.
Expanding Investigation Net
Since Monday night, J&K police have detained at least five individuals from various Pulwama villages for questioning. Among those detained is Amir Rashid from Samboora village, who is allegedly the current owner of the vehicle used in the explosion.
Police have also taken Rashid's brother into custody along with three other men from the area as the investigation into the terror network widens.
The DNA matching results are eagerly awaited by investigation agencies as they could provide the breakthrough needed to either confirm Umar Nabi's death in the blast or launch a manhunt if he's still alive.
