A 49-year-old assistant professor from a college affiliated with Delhi University was discovered murdered in her apartment in east Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday afternoon, according to police officials.
Details of the Incident
Devosmita Paul, who served as an assistant professor at Shivaji College, resided alone in the flat located in Vasundhara Enclave. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar provided an official statement confirming the incident.
Police received a PCR call at approximately 2:35 PM from a woman who reported that her sister had been murdered and that the body was lying inside the flat.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon arrival at the scene, a police team was briefed by the caller, identified as Devarati Paul. She stated that her sister had not been responding to repeated phone calls since morning. The apartment was locked from the outside. Suspecting something was wrong, she broke the lock and entered the flat, where she discovered her sister deceased and immediately alerted the authorities.
The crime team and forensic experts were summoned to the location. A comprehensive examination of the apartment was carried out, and relevant exhibits along with forensic samples were collected. The crime scene was documented through photography and videography as part of the ongoing investigation.
The body has been transported to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials have indicated that the exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is received.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the New Ashok Nagar police station.
Police have formed multiple teams tasked with identifying and apprehending the accused. Investigators are currently examining all possible angles, including the victim's recent movements, her contacts, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
