New Delhi: Fingerprints and bloodstains discovered on a dumbbell have emerged as crucial forensic evidence linking 28-year-old Ankur to the alleged murder of his wife Kajal, a SWAT commando with Delhi Police Special Cell, in southwest Delhi's Mohan Garden in January, police said in a chargesheet filed before Dwarka court.
Chargesheet Details
The over 500-page chargesheet, filed last month, names more than 35 witnesses and invokes charges of murder and cruelty by husband or relatives of a married woman. Police have also added dowry death provisions against Ankur's parents. The incident was reported on January 23 at the couple's residence in Mohan Garden.
Forensic Evidence
According to police, investigators recovered a dumbbell from the scene, which was allegedly used in the assault. Forensic analysis revealed fingerprints and bloodstains on the object, strengthening the case against the accused.
Ankur was arrested soon after the incident and is currently in judicial custody. Police said the couple had frequent disputes in the period leading up to the crime, which escalated on the day of the incident.
Motive and Confession
During interrogation, Ankur allegedly told police that an argument broke out after Kajal objected to him giving pocket money to his younger brother. "He stated that his wife argued over the issue. He tried to pacify her but failed. In a fit of rage, he picked up a dumbbell and struck her multiple times on the head," police said.
Kajal succumbed to her injuries on January 27 after battling for life for several days.
Background of the Victim and Accused
Police said Kajal had joined Delhi Police in 2022 and was later posted as a commando with the SWAT team of the Special Cell. In 2023, she married Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted at Delhi Cantt. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son and hailed from Gannaur in Haryana's Sonipat district.
Kajal's elder brother, also a Delhi Police constable from the 2018 batch, has alleged that Ankur physically assaulted her, demanded dowry, and subjected her to sustained harassment.
