Tragic Discovery in Ghatkopar West

The Mumbai police have launched a murder investigation after a 65-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Ghatkopar. The victim, identified as Shehnaz Kazi, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on Tuesday evening after concerned family members asked a neighbor to check on her.

Neighbor Makes Gruesome Discovery

The chain of events began when Saika Ansari, a resident of the third floor in Mukund Society, Ghatkopar West, received an urgent call from Shehnaz's sister. The sister expressed concern that Shehnaz had not been answering her phone calls for an extended period.

Given that Shehnaz lived alone on the floor above since her husband's death in 2018 and had no children, the family's anxiety was understandable. Saika promptly obtained keys from another neighbor and entered Shehnaz's apartment, where she made the horrifying discovery.

Shehnaz was lying unconscious on the floor with severe head injuries and visible blood around her. Emergency services were immediately alerted, and she was rushed to a nearby local hospital. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Property Dispute Emerges as Key Motive

Based on the post-mortem report that confirmed Shehnaz died from blunt force trauma to the head, the Ghatkopar police formally registered a murder case. Investigators revealed that a property dispute appears to be the primary motive behind the brutal killing.

According to police officials, Shehnaz's husband Anees had been married twice and had three children from his second marriage. There was an ongoing property conflict between Shehnaz and her step-children that had been simmering for some time.

While no arrests have been made so far, police confirmed that several suspects have been detained for questioning. An investigating officer stated, "We are currently questioning some individuals connected to the property dispute and expect to make arrests soon."

The local community in Ghatkopar has been shaken by the incident, particularly given the vulnerable position of elderly residents living alone. Police have intensified their investigation and are pursuing multiple leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
