Ex-Policeman's Wife Brutally Attacked in Bhopal Home Robbery

A shocking robbery and assault incident unfolded in the Rajiv Nagar area of Bhopal's Housing Board Colony in Nishatpura on Tuesday morning, leaving a 65-year-old woman, the wife of a retired police officer, severely injured and traumatized.

Violent Assault During Morning Tea

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 8:30 AM when the victim, identified as Shail Kumari Mishra, was having her morning tea. The suspect, believed to be a construction worker from a nearby site, allegedly entered the house, demanded money, and when refused, forcibly took her inside before launching a brutal attack.

The assailant reportedly used a stone to strike the woman on the head, causing severe injuries that left her in a semi-conscious state. The attack also resulted in injuries to her ears and eyebrows, with police suspecting these wounds occurred during the forcible removal of her jewellery.

Discovery and Hospitalization

The critically injured woman was discovered approximately 30 minutes later by a milkman who came to deliver milk. Finding her lying injured and barely conscious, the milkman immediately alerted her daughter who lives nearby. The victim was first rushed to a private hospital before being transferred to another medical facility in Arera Colony for specialized treatment.

SHO Manoj Patwa confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the woman suffered significant head trauma requiring immediate medical attention. Her condition remains serious but stable under hospital care.

Jewellery Snatched During Escape

Police investigation has revealed that the suspect fled the scene after snatching valuable jewellery from the victim. Preliminary reports indicate missing earrings, with officers verifying whether additional gold jewellery worn on her nose, ears, and neck was also taken during the robbery.

ACP Akshay Choudhary stated that a formal robbery case has been registered with the Nishatpura police station, and authorities are actively scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Family Background and Circumstances

The victim, Shail Kumari Mishra, was alone at home during the attack as both her sons were out of town for work. One son serves in the Special Armed Forces (SAF) of Madhya Pradesh police and is posted outside the state, while the other works in Pune. Both have been informed and are returning to Bhopal immediately.

Her husband, Devendra Mishra, served as an assistant sub-inspector in the SAF before retirement. The couple has five daughters and two sons, with family members residing either nearby or in other cities for employment reasons.

Previous Contact with Suspect

Police investigations have uncovered that the suspected construction worker had previously visited the Mishra residence to drink water while working in the area, establishing familiarity with the household. The proximity of a school and ongoing construction activity to the crime scene has provided important context for the investigation.

Authorities are pursuing multiple leads, including questioning workers from nearby construction sites and analyzing digital evidence to track down the perpetrator of this violent home invasion.
