A Fatehabad court on Wednesday sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a snatching case from 2021. The court also awarded an additional one-year imprisonment for the destruction of evidence. Additional District and Sessions Judge Navendu Jain imposed a fine of Rs 27,000 on the convict, identified as Rajvinder, a resident of Nangla village in Fatehabad.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Rajvinder snatched a purse containing a mobile phone and other belongings from a woman in Tohana on January 9, 2021. Following the theft, he attempted to cover his tracks by throwing the mobile SIM card and cupboard keys into a canal, aiming to destroy any evidence linking him to the crime.
Legal Proceedings and Verdict
The case was prosecuted under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court found Rajvinder guilty of both snatching and destruction of evidence, leading to the cumulative sentence. The fine amount is to be paid as part of the punishment.
