Fifth Arrest in Poonthura Trespass Assault Case

Thiruvananthapuram: Poonthura police have arrested another accused in the case involving an armed trespass and assault on a family. The arrested person has been identified as Jenin, 24, a resident of Gayathri Bhavan in Poonthura.

Jenin was produced before the court and remanded. Police stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused involved in the case. Earlier, four others—Binu, 33; Banans, 28; Binoj, 29; and Baiju, 24, all residents of Muttathara—were arrested and remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a court.

Background of the Incident

The incident is linked to a dispute that arose during a DJ programme held at a church in the locality. According to police, the complainant's brothers had allegedly questioned the accused over misbehaviour during the event, which led to enmity between the groups.

Details of the Attack

On April 12, a group of approximately eight people allegedly reached the complainant's house, trespassed onto the premises, and attacked the family members. The complainant, her husband, children, and brothers were assaulted and verbally abused, police said. The injured were treated for minor injuries.

Police are continuing their investigation to arrest the remaining suspects involved in this case.
