In a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district, five labourers lost their lives when soil caved in during the construction of a well. The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in a village under the jurisdiction of the Panna police station.
Details of the Incident
The victims were engaged in digging a well when suddenly a large quantity of soil collapsed, trapping them inside. Local residents immediately alerted the authorities, and a rescue operation was launched by the district administration, police, and disaster response teams.
After hours of relentless efforts, the rescue teams managed to retrieve the bodies of all five labourers. The deceased have been identified as residents of the nearby areas. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Government Response
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also instructed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families.
The local administration has initiated an inquiry into the incident to ascertain the cause of the cave-in and whether any safety norms were violated during the construction work.
