Dense Fog Triggers Serious Bus Collision on Agra-Lucknow Expressway
Late on Thursday night, a dangerous accident unfolded on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Two sleeper buses collided with each other in the Chaubiya police station area of Etawah district. Thick fog blanketed the region, creating hazardous driving conditions. This incident resulted in injuries to seven people.
Timeline and Location of the Crash
The collision occurred at approximately 3:35 AM. It happened at kilometre marker 112/675 on the expressway. Authorities confirmed all injured individuals received immediate medical attention. Rescue teams transported them to Saifai Medical University for treatment.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Accident
The first bus involved bore the registration number BR 30 PA 6073. It was traveling from Delhi towards Gorakhpur. Only four passengers were on board at the time. Due to the dense fog, the driver failed to see a truck moving ahead. The bus then collided with this truck.
After the initial impact, the damaged bus remained stranded in the overtaking lane. This created a major obstruction on the highway.
The Second Collision and Rescue Operations
Shortly after, a second sleeper bus approached the scene. This vehicle, numbered BR 06 PG 7903, was coming from behind. Its driver, identified as Havaldar from Umri's Ishwari police station area, could not stop in time. The bus rammed forcefully into the stationary first bus.
This second bus carried around forty passengers. The combined impact from both collisions left approximately seven people from both vehicles injured.
Emergency Response and Official Statements
Multiple agencies swiftly responded to the emergency. The UPEIDA patrol team arrived first. They were joined by a small fire brigade vehicle, the safety team, Dial 112 responders, and officers from Chaubiya police station.
Relief work commenced under the supervision of UPEIDA assistant safety officers Ashok Kumar Mishra and Rajendra Prasad Pandey. The officers provided crucial updates.
Officials stated the damaged buses were moved to a safe distance from the road. This action prevented further accidents. Traffic flow was carefully controlled to ensure safety.
"The injured are undergoing treatment at Saifai Medical University," the officers confirmed. They emphasized that fog was the primary cause of this unfortunate event.
This accident highlights the severe risks posed by reduced visibility during foggy conditions. It underscores the need for extreme caution while driving on expressways at night, especially in winter.
