Gurgaon police made a significant breakthrough on Sunday by arresting four individuals who specifically targeted elderly citizens during their morning walks. The accused, all residents of Indira Colony in Rohtak district, were taken into custody following a detailed investigation.
How the Operation Unfolded
A crime branch team from Sector 17 executed the arrests on Dujana-Rohtak Road in Jhajjar. Police relied on sustained surveillance, technical analysis, and reliable tip-offs to track down the suspects. The arrests came after a case was registered at Sector 09A police station.
The Crime Details
The group's modus operandi involved engaging elderly morning walkers in conversation before snatching their gold ornaments. In one incident on October 25, 2025, they stole a gold bangle from an elderly man near Surya Vihar Road.
Police revealed that the victim was walking around 6 am when one accused approached him on a scooter. They started talking about old-age pension schemes. Soon, three other men arrived on a bike and joined the discussion. Taking advantage of the situation, the group snatched the bangle and fled on their vehicles.
Profile of the Accused
The arrested individuals have been identified as Narendra alias Virendra (40), Balkishan (50), Sumit alias Dheela (31), and Deepak (22). During interrogation, they admitted to drug abuse and involvement in various crimes including theft, snatching, and robbery.
Police stated that elderly people were their preferred targets because they could be easily engaged in conversation. The accused were produced before a court on Monday. Deepak was sent to judicial custody, while Narendra, Balkishan, and Sumit were remanded to three days of police custody.
Criminal Backgrounds
Investigations uncovered extensive criminal records among the accused:
- Narendra faces 16 cases across Hisar and Rohtak districts, including assault, theft, snatching, and fraud.
- Sumit has three cases of theft and snatching registered against him in Hisar.
- Balkishan is involved in three cases related to robbery and fraud, and is a proclaimed offender in the same district.
- Deepak faces a case of assault and criminal intimidation registered in Hansi.
Vehicle Seizure
At the time of arrest, the accused were traveling in a Kia Seltos car. Police believe the vehicle was being used to plan another criminal act. The car was seized and found to be registered in the name of the brother of another accomplice.
