Purnia Police Nab Four Accused in Intermediate Student Shooting Case

In a significant development, the Purnia police on Friday apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in the shooting of an Intermediate examination candidate. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, occurred in the Kritayanand Nagar police station area on February 3.

Attack on Student Returning from Examination

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Divyanshu Kumar, was targeted while returning home after appearing for his examination at Saraswati Vidya Mandir. According to police officials, the attack originated from a seemingly minor dispute over social media posts that escalated dramatically.

Purnia Superintendent of Police Sweety Sehrawat provided crucial details about the incident. "Four motorcycle-borne miscreants shot at Divyanshu in the leg as he was returning after completing his examination," Sehrawat stated. "The bullet passed through his left leg, causing significant injury."

The injured student was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Purnia, where he received urgent medical treatment for his wounds.

Arrested Accused and Investigation Details

The police have identified the arrested individuals as Abhinav Kumar, Piyush Kumar, Amarjeet Kumar (also known as Chhotu), and Rounak Kumar. Following their apprehension, all four accused have been sent to judicial custody.

Given the serious nature of the case, authorities constituted a special investigation team under the leadership of the Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer-II. This dedicated team worked diligently to track down the perpetrators and gather evidence.

During the investigation, police recovered substantial evidence including one country-made pistol, five cellphones, and the motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the crime. "All the accused have confessed to their involvement during interrogation," confirmed SP Sweety Sehrawat, highlighting the strength of the police investigation.

Social Media Dispute Escalates to Violence

The interrogation revealed disturbing details about the motive behind the attack. According to police statements, Rounak Kumar disclosed during questioning that he had engaged in a dispute with Divyanshu approximately one month prior to the incident.

The disagreement, which began over social media posts, quickly escalated into abusive exchanges and threats over several days. What started as a digital argument transformed into a dangerous real-world confrontation.

Police investigation indicates that Rounak allegedly masterminded the attack and meticulously tracked Divyanshu's movements. When the student was returning home after completing his examination, Rounak and his associates executed their planned assault, resulting in the shooting that injured the young examinee.

This case highlights the dangerous potential for online disputes to spill over into physical violence, particularly among youth. The Purnia police's swift action in apprehending all four suspects demonstrates their commitment to addressing serious crimes in the region and ensuring justice for victims.
