Four from Arunachal die in Guwahati road accident

Guwahati: Four people from Arunachal Pradesh died on the spot after their vehicle crashed into a parked container truck at Lalmati under Khetri Police Station limits on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 11 am, according to joint commissioner of police Ankur Jain.

Victims Identified

Police identified the deceased as Lingi Basar (55), a doctor; his wife Kunga Dolma (52), who worked with Arunachal Pradesh’s food and civil supplies department; their son Gemar Basar (22); and his friend Karma Sherab Khrimey (22). Khetri PS officer-in-charge Tanmoy Nath said Lingi and his family hailed from Upper Siang district, while Khrimey was from West Kameng. Both Gemar and Karma were medical students at a private college in Tripura.

Details of the Accident

According to Nath, the group was travelling from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati to attend a family matter. The bodies have been taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination. Jain added that the vehicle, bearing an Arunachal Pradesh registration and driven by Lingi, was speeding when it rammed into the stationary truck. The car reportedly started its journey at 6 am from Itanagar, and a room was booked at Arunachal Bhawan in Rupnagar.

Examination of the site indicated that the doctor, who was driving, did not apply brakes before impact. Eyewitnesses suggested the vehicle was travelling at over 100 kmph. Jain said the collision may have occurred because the driver was fatigued and possibly fell asleep at the wheel after driving for several hours. There was no sign of evasive action, and the vehicle appeared to drift sideways before crashing.

Investigation Underway

A formal investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the collision. Authorities are examining all aspects, including driver fatigue and road conditions.
