Karnataka police have arrested four individuals in connection with the supply of a crude bomb used in a car blast that killed one person in Tumakuru district. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim, identified as Fernandes, was engaged in making crude bombs for fishing purposes.
Arrests and Investigation
The four suspects were taken into custody on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, following a coordinated operation by local police and forensic teams. They are believed to have provided the explosive material used in the blast that occurred on June 28, 2026. According to police sources, the suspects are being interrogated to determine the exact chain of events and any possible links to larger networks.
Victim's Background
Fernandes, a resident of a nearby village, had reportedly been making crude bombs for fishing in local rivers, a practice that is illegal but not uncommon in the region. Investigators suspect that an accidental detonation during handling or transport may have caused the explosion, but they have not ruled out foul play. The car was completely destroyed in the blast, and Fernandes died on the spot.
“We are looking into whether the bomb was intended for fishing or if there was any criminal intent. The arrested individuals have confessed to supplying the materials,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.
Legal Action and Public Safety
The arrested have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Explosives Act. Police have urged the public to refrain from using crude bombs for fishing, highlighting the severe risks involved. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are probing if more people are involved in the supply chain.
