Mysterious Deaths of Four Stray Dogs in Bhopal's Shahpura Area Spark Investigation
A puzzling incident has unfolded in Bhopal, where four stray dogs were found dead within a single day in the Shahpura locality earlier this week. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain shrouded in mystery, with authorities and animal activists scrambling for answers.
Autopsy Reveals Food Poisoning in One Case
Police have confirmed that an autopsy conducted on one of the deceased dogs revealed death by food poisoning. However, post-mortem examinations are still pending for the other three dogs, leaving their causes of death uncertain. This development has raised serious concerns among local residents and animal welfare groups.
Animal Activist Reports the Incident
City-based social worker and animal activist Bindu Ramakant Ghat Pandey brought the matter to light after approaching the police to file an FIR. She alleged that the stray dogs she regularly fed inside the Laxmi Parisar complex had died under suspicious circumstances.
"This seems to have happened on the night of January 24. On the morning of January 25, I could not find four dogs in the complex. Someone then told me that one of the dogs sighted nearby seemed to be ill. I rushed it to the nearest veterinarian, but the dog passed away, and a post-mortem examination was conducted," Pandey recounted.
She further explained that by 2 PM, another dog was discovered in a similar condition. Subsequently, it was revealed that a phone call had been made to the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), requesting the removal of dead dog bodies. However, the BMC team was unable to locate the remains of the other dogs, as some residents had already buried them.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Shahpura police have acknowledged receiving a complaint application regarding the incident and have assured that a formal case will be registered. Officers noted that animal lovers in the area, who routinely care for street dogs, raised the alarm after noticing the unusual deaths.
"It is strange that four dogs died on a single day from the same complications," Pandey emphasized, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation. The police are currently examining all aspects of the case to determine whether foul play was involved or if it was an unfortunate accident.
Community and Municipal Involvement
The incident has sparked discussions about the safety and well-being of stray animals in urban areas. The involvement of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation adds another layer to the investigation, as questions arise about the handling of such situations and the protocols followed.
Local authorities are urging residents to come forward with any information that might shed light on the events leading to the dogs' deaths. The community's response and the ongoing police probe are crucial in uncovering the truth behind this tragic occurrence.
