A French military officer has reportedly disclosed the location of an aircraft carrier deployed to the Middle East after publicly recording a run on the popular sports application Strava. According to a report by the French news outlet Le Monde, the officer, referred to pseudonymously as Arthur, logged a 35-minute run on March 13 while exercising on the deck of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Using a smartwatch, he uploaded the activity to Strava, which automatically generated a map pinpointing the vessel's precise location at the time.
Le Monde's investigation revealed that the carrier was positioned northwest of Cyprus, approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the Turkish coastline. Satellite imagery corroborated the presence of the Charles de Gaulle and its accompanying escort ships in that area. While BBC Verify noted it could not independently locate the specific route, it suggested the data might have been subsequently deleted or altered through privacy settings.
