Three Lives Lost in Tragic Ghaziabad Expressway Collision
A devastating road accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) near IPEM College in Ghaziabad resulted in the deaths of three individuals early Friday morning. The victims include two family members traveling in an SUV and a bike taxi rider who had stopped to assist them.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to ACP Kotwali Upasana Pandey, the tragedy unfolded around 6 am when Naveen Kumar (42) and his brother-in-law Deepak, who were en route from Loni to Rudrapur in a Thar SUV, pulled over near IPEM College. They apparently stopped bike taxi rider Yogesh, who was heading to Lal Kuan on his Rapido bike, likely to ask for directions.
The speeding mini-bus struck all three men as they stood behind the parked Thar. Pandey described the impact as severe, stating, "The impact was so severe that all three were badly crushed between the bus and the Thar."
Immediate Response and Legal Action
A Vijay Nagar police team, alerted through Dial 112, rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, but all three were declared dead on arrival. The mini-bus driver, identified as Virendra, a Delhi resident, was arrested at the scene, and the vehicle was seized.
An FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint submitted by Naveen's family.
Background of the Victims and Vehicle
Naveen Kumar operated a travel agency in Loni's Jawahar Nagar and is survived by his wife and two young daughters. Deepak, who also worked at the agency, had visited Loni the previous day to see his sister. The two had departed Loni around midnight for Rudrapur when the accident occurred.
Yogesh, who had purchased his bike just two-and-a-half months ago with a loan, is survived by his wife and two children, aged four and one-and-a-half years. Police reported that he worked at a private company in Delhi and drove a bike taxi part-time. At the time of the incident, he was traveling to Lal Kuan to meet a friend.
The mini-bus was carrying 26 passengers, all women, on a journey from Delhi to Haridwar. Two passengers sustained minor injuries in the crash and were discharged after receiving medical treatment.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing road safety concerns on busy expressways and has left three families in mourning.
