Ghaziabad Teacher Strangled to Death by In-Laws in Alleged Honor Killing

A 32-year-old school teacher was brutally murdered by his in-laws in Ghaziabad's Teela Mod area on Monday evening, in what police describe as a premeditated attack stemming from tensions over an inter-community marriage. The victim, identified as Nitin Kumar Jayant, was a resident of Geetanjali Vihar and worked as a teacher in Ristal.

Arrests Made as Police Launch Manhunt for Accomplices

On Tuesday, Ghaziabad police arrested two primary accused in the case while launching a manhunt for four other individuals allegedly involved in the killing. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehruddin, the victim's father-in-law, and his brother Asif Ali. Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh confirmed the arrests and stated that the investigation is ongoing to apprehend all remaining suspects.

The case has been registered under multiple serious charges, including murder and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The victim's family belongs to the Jatav community, adding a caste dimension to what police describe as a complex family dispute turned violent.

Protest and Traffic Disruption Following Autopsy

Following the post-mortem examination on Tuesday, the victim's family staged a protest near the Banthla flyover on Loni-Bhopura Road, demanding immediate arrest of all accused involved in the killing. The protest caused temporary traffic disruption in the area before police intervention. Law enforcement officials assured the family of strict action and managed to disperse the gathering with promises of a thorough investigation.

Background of the Inter-Community Marriage

According to police statements, the tragedy stems from an inter-community marriage that took place in May 2025. Nitin had married Muskan, daughter of Mehruddin, from Puranpur Nawada village in Baghpat district against the wishes of her family. Police confirmed that the couple's marriage had created ongoing tensions between the families, with Muskan currently being pregnant.

The situation escalated over the weekend when, following an argument between Nitin and Muskan, the latter became upset and went to her parental home on Sunday. This set in motion the events that would lead to Monday's fatal confrontation.

Detailed Account of the Premeditated Attack

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Nitin's elder brother Amit, the attack was carefully planned under the guise of reconciliation. Mehruddin and Asif allegedly called the family on Monday under the pretext of holding discussions to resolve the marital dispute, asking them to come to Banthla closed railway crossing.

Amit, along with Nitin and their neighbor Sumitra, reached the designated location. "They told us that Muskan was in Bukhedi village and made the three of us sit in their car. They then drove us towards Hariyali farmhouse," Amit stated in his complaint.

When the group became suspicious, they asked to stop the car and began walking toward Bhanehra village. At this point, a motorcycle arrived from behind, and the neighbor Sumitra was sent back home on it for safety.

The fatal attack occurred around 7:15 PM when another car arrived carrying four unknown individuals. According to Amit's statement, "The four, along with Mehruddin and Asif, caught hold of my brother and said, 'Let us finish him today.' They then started beating up my brother and strangled him to death."

Escape and Medical Response

Amit managed to escape from the scene and immediately contacted police through the emergency helpline number. Police personnel reached the location and found Nitin unconscious near a culvert in Bhanehra village. He was first rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi for advanced care.

Despite medical efforts, doctors at GTB Hospital declared Nitin dead on Monday night. The post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday confirmed the cause of death as strangulation following physical assault.
