The victim, identified as Kanak, was returning from an anganwadi center with her mother, siblings, and other children when the bus hit her. In the immediate aftermath, passersby reacted with fury, pelting stones at the bus to force it to stop and causing damage to its windows. They also promptly alerted authorities about the tragic event. The accident led to significant traffic disruptions, with jams reported from Tikonia to Bhimtal Tiraha, Jyolikot, and Saldi, severely affecting movement in the area.

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement officials quickly reached the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. The body of the young girl was sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. SP (City) Manoj Kumar Katyal provided insights into the measures being taken, stating, "To prevent such accidents, a no-entry has been enforced across the city during the day. Since the bus belonged to the state-run roadways service, it was exempted from the restriction. An investigation is underway. The driver has been detained and the vehicle seized."

Background of the Victim's Family

Kanak's father, Jeevan Lal, is a resident of Bisalpur in Pilibhit district and works as a labourer at Jain Iron in Ranibagh. He had brought his wife, Rajkumari, and their three children to live with him approximately three months ago, seeking a better life in the area. This tragic event has left the family and community in mourning.
