In a significant crackdown on drug peddling, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police apprehended a young man from Mapusa on Sunday for allegedly possessing narcotic substances valued at more than one lakh rupees.
Details of the Anjuna Drug Bust
The operation was led by Police Sub-Inspector Dindayal Redkar under the supervision of ANC Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant. Acting on intelligence, the team, accompanied by two panch witnesses, conducted a raid at an open area located behind St. Michael’s School in Anjuna. The spot is near the BSNL mobile tower.
During the search, the officials found the accused, identified as 23-year-old Rishikesh Rao, in illegal possession of banned drugs. The seized contraband included 4 grams of a substance suspected to be Ecstasy powder, with an estimated street value of Rs 40,000. Additionally, the police confiscated 15 grams of what is believed to be high-quality hydroponic weed (ganja), valued at approximately Rs 75,000.
Legal Proceedings and FIR Filed
Following the seizure, the ANC officials formally attached the drugs and other related articles under a panchnama, which is a crucial documentary evidence of the raid. The cell has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Rishikesh Rao based on the findings.
Superintendent Sunita Sawant confirmed the arrest and the registration of the case, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Goa police to curb the narcotics trade in the coastal state. The total value of the confiscated substances in this single operation exceeded Rs 1,15,000.
Ongoing Fight Against Narcotics
This arrest underscores the continued vigilance of the Goa Anti-Narcotic Cell in popular tourist zones like Anjuna. The police have intensified drives against drug suppliers to maintain law and order and protect the youth from substance abuse. Further investigation into the source and network of the accused is likely underway.
