Major Probe Launched After GRP Jawans Accused of Gold Heist
A serious investigation has been initiated following the alleged loot of 1 kilogram of gold biscuits, valued at approximately Rs 1.44 crore, from an employee of a West Bengal-based bullion trader. Shockingly, the prime accused in this high-value theft are four Government Railway Police (GRP) jawans who were part of the train's escort party. The incident has sent ripples through the railway security establishment.
Timeline of the Theft and Official Complaint
The sequence of events began when the trader's staff member, Shashwat, was travelling to deliver the gold consignment to Jaipur. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred near Koderma railway station on the Gaya-Dhanbad rail section. The four GRP personnel, under the guise of a check, allegedly searched Shashwat's bag. Upon discovering the gold biscuits, they are accused of snatching the bag and threatening him.
The jawans reportedly forced Shashwat to return to Howrah from Gaya Junction. After reaching Howrah, Shashwat informed his employer, bullion trader Manoj Soni, about the entire ordeal. Following this, the trader lodged a formal complaint at the Malipanchghora police station in Howrah district on November 20.
Police Intervention and Swift Action
Alerted to the grave nature of the crime involving its own personnel, senior officials of the Patna GRP were informed. The matter saw significant escalation after the intervention of Patna Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Inamul Haque. Acting on his directives, a parallel FIR was registered at the Gaya GRP police station on November 29, formally setting the probe in motion within the railway police jurisdiction.
SRP Inamul Haque personally reached Gaya to monitor the case. He enquired about the status from Gaya GRP Station House Officer, Rajesh Singh, and issued clear instructions. "He said that the accused jawans should be arrested immediately," underscoring the urgency of the matter. The probe aims to uncover the details of the alleged robbery and the involvement of the escort party.
Implications and Ongoing Investigation
This case raises severe questions about the integrity and trustworthiness of the security personnel tasked with protecting passengers and goods on India's railways. The alleged involvement of GRP jawans in such a brazen loot is a serious breach of duty. The investigation, now active in both Howrah and Gaya, will focus on identifying and apprehending the four accused jawans and recovering the stolen gold.
Authorities are piecing together the events that transpired between Koderma and Gaya Junction. The outcome of this probe is being closely watched, as it has significant implications for railway security protocols and the accountability of armed escorts on trains carrying valuable cargo.
