The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested eight individuals allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The arrests were made from various districts in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, according to police statements released on Friday.
Details of the Arrests and Charges
The eight accused are believed to be active members of JeM and were working to establish an operational terror network within Gujarat. An ATS official confirmed that the arrests were carried out simultaneously across multiple locations in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
A case has been registered against the eight accused under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The official stated, “Eight accused were arrested on Thursday from different districts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. They are members of banned terror organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and were actively working on behalf of it to set up an active terror network in Gujarat.”
Ongoing Investigation and Implications
The ATS is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the network and any potential links to other individuals or cells within India. The arrests highlight ongoing concerns about cross-border terrorism and the efforts of security agencies to dismantle sleeper cells.
This operation underscores the collaboration between state police forces and central agencies in counter-terrorism efforts. Further details regarding the identities of the accused and specific locations of their activities are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
