Gunshots Fired Outside Former NRI's Residence in Kapurthala Village
In a startling incident, gunshots were fired outside the residence of a former NRI in Nangal Lubana village, located in the Bholath sub-division of Kapurthala district. The event occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, creating a wave of concern in the local community. The entire episode was captured on CCTV footage, which clearly shows two individuals opening fire before hastily fleeing the scene.
CCTV Footage and Police Investigation
The CCTV recording has become a crucial piece of evidence for the authorities. It depicts the two suspects approaching the house and discharging firearms, adding a layer of urgency to the police probe. Bholath Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karnail Singh provided details, stating that the house owner, Devinder Singh, previously resided in the United States and has been living in the village for approximately one year.
Devinder Singh alleged that he had a group call with Jatinder Singh—a co-villager now settled in the US—and others a few days prior to the shooting. During this call, he claims to have received threats, which escalated into the violent attack. DSP Singh further explained that Devinder and Jatinder were once business associates but later experienced a fallout, leading to severely strained relations between them.
FIR Registered and Legal Actions
Based on Devinder Singh's formal complaint, an FIR has been registered under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Jatinder Singh has been named in the FIR along with two unidentified shooters, marking a significant step in the legal proceedings. The village, known for its sizable NRI population, is now under heightened scrutiny as police continue their investigation to apprehend all individuals involved.
