Gurgaon Witnesses Tragic Road Accidents: One Dead in Bus-Auto Crash, Another in Truck Collision
In a distressing series of events on Gurgaon's roads, two separate accidents have resulted in fatalities and injuries, highlighting ongoing concerns about traffic safety in the city. The incidents occurred on Golf Course Road and Sohna Road, with police registering cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and negligence.
Bus Rams Autorickshaw on Golf Course Road
On Wednesday, a speeding school bus collided with an autorickshaw from behind on Golf Course Road, causing the auto to overturn. The impact led to one death and six injuries among the passengers and driver. According to police reports, the bus, coming from Delhi and belonging to a school in Vasant Kunj, was found abandoned at the scene without its driver.
The injured individual, who was trapped underneath the overturned autorickshaw, suffered severe injuries and was referred to PGIMS Rohtak for treatment. Tragically, this person succumbed to their injuries on Thursday. The auto driver, identified as Pintu Paswan from Bihar's Gaya district, was among those injured. Paswan, a resident of Sukhrali in Sector 17, was transporting six passengers towards Sector 56 at the time of the accident.
In a complaint filed at Sushant Lok police station, Paswan described the incident: "When I reached the 42/27 red light and moved ahead on the green signal, a yellow school bus (DL1YC3332) coming from the Faridabad Road side at high speed rammed into the auto from behind. The impact caused the auto to overturn on the road, leaving several passengers injured."
Bystanders at the location assisted by lifting the overturned auto and helping the injured. Police arrived after receiving information through the emergency response vehicle system. A case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125A (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the BNS, with section 106 (death by negligence) added following the fatality.
Separate Accident on Sohna Road Claims Life
In another tragic incident on Monday evening, a 60-year-old man died and his wife was injured after a truck allegedly collided with their motorcycle on the Sohna Road flyover. The deceased, Sitaram Tiwari, was a native of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh and lived with his family in Dev Nagar Part-1 in Bhondsi.
His wife, Malti Tiwari (58), sustained multiple injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital in Sector 10. Police stated that the couple was traveling to Sohna to purchase medicines on March 10. As they crossed the Ghamdoj toll plaza and reached the Alipur cut on the flyover, a Tata 709 Canter truck approached at high speed and struck their motorcycle.
"The impact threw the motorcycle into the divider, damaging the vehicle and knocking both riders onto the road. Malti sustained several injuries, while Sitaram suffered critical injuries and was bleeding heavily," an officer reported.
An ambulance transported the couple to a government hospital in Sohna, where Sitaram later died. The Canter driver initially stopped but attempted to flee the scene; however, a sanitation worker intervened to prevent his escape, though the driver ultimately left. Police seized both the damaged motorcycle and the Canter for investigation. Malti, declared fit to give a statement on Tuesday, attributed the accident to the negligent driving of the Canter driver.
Bhondsi police have registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving), 125A (causing hurt by act endangering life), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in Gurgaon, as authorities continue to investigate the causes and hold accountable those responsible for the reckless driving that led to these fatalities.
