Gurgaon Carpenter and Brother Brutally Assaulted After Court Testimony Agreement
In a shocking incident in Gurgaon, a carpenter and his younger brother were allegedly assaulted with a hammer, iron pipes, and sticks after the elder sibling agreed to testify against one of the accused in a local court. The attack has led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against eight men, highlighting concerns over witness intimidation and violence.
Threats at Court Gates Precede Violent Assault
Rahul, a 25-year-old carpenter residing in Bhagatwada, Sohna, stated that as he approached the court gates, he was confronted by Komal alias Sonu, Kuldeep, and another individual. The group allegedly blocked his path and issued death threats, warning him not to depose in the ongoing case. Fearing for his safety, Rahul returned home without attending the court proceedings.
Later that day, the situation escalated when Kuldeep and his family members reportedly abused Rahul outside his residence. When Rahul's younger brother, Kamal, a 21-year-old first-year student, attempted to intervene, eight people—identified as Ramesh, Kuldeep, Komal, Hariom, Rakesh, and Sarita—allegedly launched a vicious attack on both brothers.
Severe Injuries and Hospitalization
The assailants used a hammer, iron pipes, and sticks during the assault, leaving both brothers with significant injuries. Rahul sustained four injuries, including a fractured leg, while Kamal suffered two injuries. Both were admitted to a government hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of his condition, Rahul was subsequently referred to Gurgaon Civil Hospital for advanced care.
According to police reports, Rahul submitted a written complaint on April 10 after doctors declared him fit to provide a statement. Based on his complaint, a case was registered on April 13 at the Sohna city police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 190: Unlawful assembly
- Section 191(2): Rioting
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 126(2): Wrongful restraint
- Section 117(1): Causing hurt
- Section 351(2): Criminal intimidation
History of Violence and Ongoing Legal Battles
Police investigations revealed that this was not the first attack on Rahul. The accused had allegedly assaulted him in January 2025, and a separate case is already ongoing in that matter. Rahul's mother provided further context, explaining that her son was previously friends with Komal and others in the neighborhood.
"They held a grudge and attacked him brutally on January 25 last year, leaving him unconscious near GD Goenka School in Sohna," she stated. "On April 8, he was going for the hearing in that case when he was again attacked."
She added that due to the multiple injuries sustained, Rahul was eventually referred from Gurgaon Civil Hospital to PGI Rohtak. However, due to the distance, the family decided to shift him to a private hospital in Gurgaon for continued treatment.
The incident underscores the dangers faced by witnesses in legal proceedings and raises serious questions about witness protection mechanisms in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the assault while the victims recover from their injuries.
