Two Separate Hit-and-Run Incidents Claim Lives in Gurgaon
In a tragic series of events, Gurgaon witnessed two fatal hit-and-run accidents this week, resulting in the deaths of a motorcyclist and a daily-wage labourer. Police have launched investigations and registered cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and negligence.
Motorcyclist Struck from Behind on NH8
Early Friday morning, a 37-year-old man, identified as Amit Kumar, lost his life after an unidentified vehicle collided with his motorcycle from behind on National Highway 8 near Bilaspur. The incident occurred around 12:05 am when Amit, a resident of Jakhopur in Rajasthan and an employee at a factory in Manesar, was returning home.
According to a complaint filed by his brother, Hitesh Kumar, the vehicle was being driven at high speed in a negligent manner. The impact threw Amit onto the road, causing fatal injuries, while the driver fled the scene without stopping. Police arrived promptly after receiving information and shifted the body to a government hospital for autopsy, later handing it over to the family.
An FIR has been registered at Bilaspur police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. Authorities are actively working to identify the vehicle and trace the driver involved in this tragic accident.
Labourer Run Over by Tractor in Bhondsi
In another distressing incident, a 29-year-old man, Rohit, died after being hit and run over by a tractor in Bhondsi on Tuesday evening. Rohit, a resident of Raisina village in Sohna and a daily-wage labourer, was walking home with his cousin after work when the tractor struck him from behind around 8:30 pm.
An eyewitness, Pawan, filed a complaint stating that the impact caused Rohit to fall onto the road, after which the vehicle's wheel ran over him. The driver was identified as Krishan, a resident of the same village. Rohit was rushed to Sohna General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. His body was sent for autopsy as part of the investigation.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered at Bhondsi police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS against the tractor driver. This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by pedestrians and workers in the region.
Community and Legal Response
These back-to-back accidents have sparked concerns about road safety in Gurgaon, with authorities emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws. The use of BNS sections in both cases underscores the legal framework aimed at holding negligent drivers accountable.
- Both victims were returning home after work, underscoring the vulnerability of commuters during late hours.
- Police efforts are focused on apprehending the drivers and preventing similar incidents through increased vigilance.
- Families of the deceased are awaiting justice as investigations proceed.
As Gurgaon continues to grapple with traffic-related fatalities, these incidents serve as a grim reminder of the consequences of reckless driving. The community calls for enhanced safety measures and public awareness to curb such tragedies in the future.
