Gurgaon Traffic Police Cracks Down on Uniform Violations, Fines Over 2,000 Drivers
The Gurgaon Traffic Police has taken stringent action against drivers of public transport vehicles who were found operating without the prescribed uniform. In a major enforcement drive conducted throughout January, authorities issued a total of 2,099 challans to auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw, and taxi drivers for failing to wear the mandatory grey uniform.
Substantial Penalties Collected Amid Awareness Campaigns
According to official data released by the traffic police, the uniform-related violations resulted in penalties amounting to Rs 14,74,500 collected during the month-long campaign. Officials emphasized that despite conducting repeated awareness drives at major intersections and busy traffic points across the city, a significant number of drivers continued to disregard the uniform rules, necessitating strict legal action.
Traffic police personnel not only enforced penalties but also conducted extensive educational campaigns targeting drivers of auto-rickshaws, taxis, and e-rickshaws. These awareness initiatives focused on promoting responsible conduct beyond just uniform compliance, including:
- Maintaining courteous behavior with passengers
- Adhering to prescribed speed limits
- Avoiding mobile phone usage while driving
- Refraining from intoxicants during duty hours
- Strictly following all traffic regulations
Enhanced Safety Measures and Continued Enforcement
During the awareness sessions, drivers were also informed about emergency helpline numbers including Dial 112 and the dedicated traffic helpline 1095 to ensure prompt assistance during emergencies. The traffic police highlighted that wearing the prescribed grey uniform is not merely a formality but serves crucial purposes in the public transport ecosystem.
"The uniform requirement helps ensure accountability among drivers and enhances passenger confidence in the safety and reliability of public transport services," explained a senior traffic police official. "When passengers can easily identify authorized drivers through their uniforms, it creates a more secure and trustworthy transportation environment."
Authorities have confirmed that the enforcement drive targeting uniform violations will continue in the coming months, with regular checks planned at various locations throughout Gurgaon. The combined approach of penalties and education aims to create lasting behavioral change among public transport operators while improving overall road safety standards in the rapidly growing city.
