A horrific incident of sexual violence has shaken Gurgaon, where a 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and brutally assaulted inside a moving van before being thrown onto a high-speed road. The attack, which occurred in the dense fog of Monday night, has led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of the vehicle used in the crime.
The Fateful Night and a Lethal Lift
The victim had left her home in Gurgaon on Monday night around 8:30 pm following a heated argument with her mother over a personal matter. She had informed her sister she was heading to a friend's place and intended to return in a few hours. However, her plans went awry, and by midnight, she found herself stranded with no public transport available.
It was then that she accepted a lift from a van occupied by two men. Instead of taking her home, the driver allegedly veered towards isolated stretches on the Gurgaon–Faridabad road, beyond the Hanuman temple. Taking advantage of the poor visibility due to dense fog, the men held her captive inside the van for nearly three hours.
A Brutal Ordeal in the Dead of Night
Police stated that the woman was subjected to a savage assault during this period. Despite her repeated cries for help, the sparse traffic and harsh, foggy conditions meant no aid came. The victim's family has alleged that the two men took turns raping her inside the moving vehicle.
The nightmare finally ended around 3 am on Tuesday, but in a terrifying manner. The woman was reportedly pushed out of the van while it was still moving at a high speed. According to a PTI report, the vehicle was traveling at over 90 kmph near Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar, close to Mula Hotel, when she was thrown out.
Aftermath and Police Action
Severely injured, the woman managed to call her sister, who rushed to the spot and took her to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital. The attack left the victim with severe facial injuries requiring 12 stitches. Given the seriousness of her condition, doctors advised taking her to Delhi, but the family admitted her to a private hospital in Faridabad.
Following a complaint at the Kotwali police station, authorities registered an FIR. Police confirmed the woman was held against her will as the van traversed deserted stretches of Faridabad. Swift investigation led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of the crime vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki Eeco van.
This chilling case highlights the extreme dangers faced by women, especially when forced to seek transportation late at night due to the lack of safe public options. It also underscores how adverse weather conditions like fog can be exploited by criminals to commit heinous acts in isolated areas.
