A tragic road accident in Gurgaon claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman on Sunday afternoon, with police revealing the car was being driven at high speed by a man holding only a learner's licence.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The victim, identified as Bhateri, was standing by the roadside near her agricultural fields in Gairatpur Bas village with other family members. The incident occurred around 4:35 pm under the jurisdiction of the Badshahpur police station.
According to the complaint filed by her son, Dalip Singh, a driver with the Delhi Transport Corporation, a Maruti Swift car coming from the direction of Tikli village was being driven recklessly at a high speed. The vehicle struck Bhateri with great force before veering off and crashing into a nearby neem tree.
Identification and Immediate Aftermath
Dalip Singh noted the vehicle's registration number as HR-26 EG-6195 and identified the driver as Sameer Khan, a 20-year-old resident of the same village. Family members quickly arranged a private vehicle and rushed the critically injured Bhateri to Park Hospital in Sector 47.
Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead upon arrival, citing multiple severe injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver, Sameer Khan, also sustained injuries in the collision and is currently undergoing medical treatment. A police officer stated, "He was found to be carrying only a learner's licence, and initial inquiry suggests he was learning to drive at the time of the incident."
Police Action and Case Registered
After receiving information from the hospital, a police team reached the accident spot. The victim's body was later shifted to the Gurgaon mortuary. The post-mortem examination could not be conducted immediately due to the late hour.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 281 (rash driving) and Section 106 (causing death by negligence). The investigation into the precise circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
