Motorcycle with 107 pending challans worth Rs 2.36 lakh seized on NH 48
Gurugram traffic police impounded a motorcycle that had 107 pending challans amounting to Rs 2.36 lakh during a special enforcement drive on NH 48 on Monday. The bike, bearing registration number HR-36 AR-8308, was stopped for inspection after it was found being driven without a High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) and without a helmet.
Traffic Inspector Mahabir Singh and his team were conducting a special checking drive to ensure lane discipline when they flagged down the motorcycle. Upon verification, the rider failed to produce any valid documents, and the system revealed the staggering number of unpaid challans under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Ongoing special enforcement drives against traffic violators
A senior traffic police officer stated that Gurugram traffic police are continuously conducting special enforcement drives targeting motorists who violate traffic rules. Under this campaign, strict action is taken against vehicle owners who have not paid traffic challans pending for more than 90 days, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
“The total outstanding penalty amount was approximately Rs 2,36,000. The rider was asked to produce the vehicle-related documents but failed to do so. Consequently, Gurugram traffic police took immediate action and impounded the motorcycle, which was then shifted to the designated impound parking facility,” the officer said.
Simultaneous awareness efforts to encourage timely challan payment
Alongside enforcement, motorists are being made aware of their pending challans and encouraged to clear them on time to avoid further penalties or vehicle seizure. The drive aims to improve road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
