Delhi Police have arrested a habitual criminal in connection with a burglary of Rs 1 crore in South Delhi. The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was apprehended after a brief chase in the Saket area. Police recovered stolen jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 80 lakh from his possession.

Details of the Burglary

The incident occurred on March 10 at a residence in the posh Vasant Kunj area. The victim, a businessman, had left for a vacation when the accused broke into the house and stole cash and jewellery. The burglary was discovered when the victim returned home.

Police Investigation

Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap near Saket Metro station. When the accused arrived, he tried to flee but was overpowered by the officers. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he had been involved in several similar burglaries in the past.

Senior police officials stated that the accused has a criminal record with multiple cases of theft and burglary registered against him in different parts of Delhi. He was previously arrested in 2019 for a similar offence but was released on bail.

Recovery of Stolen Items

Police recovered a significant portion of the stolen property, including gold ornaments, silver items, and cash. The remaining items are believed to have been sold to a local jeweller, who is also being questioned.

Legal Action

The accused has been produced before a local court and remanded to police custody for further investigation. Police are also probing his links to other unsolved burglary cases in the city.

Residents of the area have expressed relief at the arrest and urged the police to take strict action against repeat offenders. The police have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of citizens.
