Haryana Agriculture Official Arrested in Rohtak Bribery Sting
The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in Rohtak has made a significant arrest, apprehending Pawan Sharma, a deputy director serving in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in Sonipat. The arrest was executed following allegations that Sharma accepted a bribe amounting to Rs 50,000.
Complaint Details and Allegations
The case originated from a complaint filed by Rajkumar, a resident of Jati Kalan village in Sonipat district. According to the complaint, the accused officer demanded a total of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for issuing a wholesale fertiliser licence. Rajkumar alleged that Sharma had already received Rs 50,000 as part of this illicit demand and was exerting pressure to collect the remaining amount.
Sting Operation and Arrest
Acting on the complaint, a dedicated team from the vigilance bureau conducted a sting operation. On April 8, the team successfully apprehended Sharma red-handed while he was in the act of accepting the remaining Rs 50,000. This operation highlights the bureau's proactive measures in combating corruption within government departments.
Legal Proceedings and FIR
Following the arrest, an FIR has been officially registered against Pawan Sharma. The case underscores ongoing efforts to address corruption in Haryana, particularly in sectors critical to farmers and agricultural welfare.
