Haryana govt sacks official in Rs 593 crore bank fraud

Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Friday dismissed Naresh Kumar Bhuwani, superintendent of the panchayat development department, for alleged connivance in the Rs 593 crore bank fraud involving government department funds.

ACS-panchayats Vijjender Singh issued the dismissal order, which states that Naresh not only lost his job but also any chance of being re-employed with the Haryana government. He was the first government official to be arrested in the case and is currently lodged in Ambala jail.

This action reflects the Nayab Singh Saini government's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, said a government spokesperson.

A native of Charkhi Dadri, Naresh lives in Mohali. The anti-corruption bureau, which arrested him on February 28, says he received funds directly from Swastik Desh Project, a firm through which government money was siphoned.

The dismissal order details how Naresh, his wife, and children received crores in cash and kind from the alleged shell companies. He is accused of transferring Rs 1 crore of government funds through a private agency to his bank account, Rs 10 lakh to his daughter's account, and Rs 25 lakh to buy a Fortuner.
