Not all viral videos simply top the algorithm and then fade away. Some manage to create an impact that extends beyond mere publicity. In Hathras, a lighthearted exchange over ice cream soon turned into a terrifying experience and a viral controversy that drew police action.
A video gaining traction on social media shows a car passenger suddenly brandishing a handgun and offering it to an ice cream vendor interacting with him, saying: "pistol le lo, goli maar do." The clip was first uploaded on X by user Madan Mohan Soni and quickly went viral, sparking outrage over the reckless display of firearms in public spaces.
The footage begins with the vendor approaching a parked car, asking the occupants for feedback on his ice cream. One passenger praised the taste, while another theatrically declared, "Swearing by you, we've never tasted ice cream like yours." However, the mood changed instantly when the man produced a pistol, extending it towards the vendor while praising the ice cream. While the clip showed the vendor capturing the video for promotional purposes, he ended up capturing a moment that soon became a law-and-order flashpoint.
According to local residents, the men inside the car appeared intoxicated. Witnesses claimed they were laughing and taunting while one waved the weapon. As the video gained ground, netizens questioned how such behavior could unfold in a public space.
Police Move into Action
As the video reached the authorities, they quickly moved into action. Hathras Police confirmed that the case was handed to the City Circle Officer for investigation. Hours later, officials announced the arrest of the accused, identified as Manjeet.
In a statement translated from Hindi, police wrote: "Taking cognizance of a viral video received from social media on 16.06.2026, Hathras Gate police station has swiftly taken action and arrested the accused Manjeet shown in the video. Legal proceedings are being carried out as per the rules."
While the case may be under investigation, users condemned the reckless act. "Serious matter. The man showing a pistol is in an inebriated state," wrote a user on X. Others pointed out the dangers of mixing alcohol, weapons, and public spaces, warning of the potential for injuries and deaths.
