Hazaribag Police Form SIT After Rs 2 Crore Bank Robbery

Hazaribag: In response to a daring daylight robbery at a public sector bank branch in Barhi, the Hazaribag police have established a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Criminals fled with Rs 4.22 lakh in cash and gold valued at Rs 2 crore.

SIT Formation and Leadership

Superintendent of Police (SP) Aman Kumar constituted the SIT on Saturday night, placing Additional SP Amit Anand at its helm. The team comprises Barhi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal, three police inspectors, and officers-in-charge from five police stations, including Barhi.

Details of the Robbery

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the bank's Hazaribag Road branch, situated 500 meters from Barhi Chowk. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by branch manager Ajay Ram on Saturday, four armed assailants entered the bank at approximately 3:09 pm. They overpowered staff members at gunpoint and executed the heist with precision.

The FIR states that the criminals absconded with Rs 4.22 lakh in cash and 3.987 kilograms of 22-carat gold, totaling 78 packets worth Rs 2 crore.

Investigation and Evidence

Officials are scrutinizing CCTV footage from the bank premises and nearby locations, including the Rasoiya-Dhamna toll plaza, to identify the suspects. Additionally, teams are reviewing footage from adjacent districts and analyzing technical evidence to trace the accused.

Security Lapses

The branch, which opened barely a year ago, had no security guard on duty at the time of the robbery.
