In anticipation of massive crowds for New Year celebrations, the Puri police have formulated an extensive security blueprint to safeguard visitors and ensure seamless darshan at the iconic Jagannath Temple. The elaborate arrangements are a response to the expected heavy footfall at both the sacred shrine and the popular Puri beach, the city's prime holiday destinations.
Foolproof Crowd Management for Temple Darshan
Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh highlighted that robust crowd control mechanisms have been established within and around the temple precincts to prevent any untoward incidents. "Safety of visitors and hassle-free darshan remain our top priorities. We are ready with a foolproof crowd control plan," Singh stated. He instructed officers to adopt a meticulous approach in both planning and on-ground execution.
The police plan involves close coordination with the local administration and temple authorities to streamline entry and exit points, manage queues effectively, and ensure medical facilities are on standby. Devotees will be thoroughly frisked before entering the temple complex due to heightened security concerns. Senior officers have also been directed to prepare contingency plans to handle potential emergencies, such as stampedes or natural hazards.
Multi-Layered Security Deployment Across Puri
The security preparations follow high-level reviews. Director General of Police Y B Khurania recently stressed the critical need for security, crowd control, and efficient traffic management to handle the anticipated vehicle surge. Deputy Inspector General (Central Range) Satyajit Naik held a preparatory meeting with SP Singh on Saturday to assess the arrangements.
At least 25 platoons of police force are slated for deployment to ensure incident-free New Year festivities in Puri. The administration expects a significant influx of visitors from across Odisha and other states, positioning Puri as one of the busiest destinations during the holiday period.
Enhanced Vigilance Along Puri Beachfront
Security focus extends beyond the temple to the coastline. Police have planned heightened vigilance along Puri beach, which draws thousands of tourists. SP Singh emphasized the deployment of additional personnel for patrolling and directed authorities to position lifeguards at strategic points to prevent drowning incidents.
"Tourists must feel secure both at the temple and on the beach. We urge tourists to take the assistance of lifeguards while bathing in the sea," Singh advised. The comprehensive plan aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all revelers welcoming the New Year in the pilgrim city.
