Police in Medak district arrested a man on Saturday night for the alleged murder of his friend. The crime followed a violent drunken argument over a small debt of 23 rupees.
Drunken Dispute Turns Deadly
According to Chegunta police officials, the victim was identified as Mohammed Siraj. He was thirty years old. Authorities discovered his body on Thursday. It showed multiple injuries, including severe wounds to the head.
Confession Reveals Tragic Details
The accused, Mahesh Kumar, provided a full confession to the police. He admitted that both men were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. The argument erupted over the repayment of money Siraj had borrowed.
"Both friends decided to drink alcohol on January 15 because it was Sankranti," explained Deputy Superintendent of Police Narender Goud from the Toopran division. "They consumed liquor under a tree in the Ananthasagar suburbs. Kumar then insisted that Siraj return the 23 rupees he had borrowed long ago."
The verbal fight quickly turned physical. Kumar reportedly slammed Siraj's head against the tree. He then picked up a stone and struck his friend's head with it. Kumar fled the scene only after confirming that Siraj was dead.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Officers tracked down Kumar on the outskirts of Masaipet. During the arrest, they seized crucial evidence from him. This included a blood-stained shirt and the stone allegedly used as the murder weapon.
Investigations revealed that both men worked as construction laborers. They shared a room as roommates and originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh. The case highlights how a minor financial dispute escalated into a fatal tragedy under the influence of alcohol.
