Indore Crime Branch Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking with Major Arrest
In a significant crackdown on narcotics networks, the Indore crime branch has arrested two individuals for allegedly possessing MD drugs with an estimated street value of approximately Rs 5.5 lakh. The operation, which unfolded near the bustling Rajkumar vegetable market, resulted in the seizure of 53.57 grams of the illicit substance, marking a crucial victory in the city's ongoing battle against drug abuse.
Police Action Based on Intelligence Leads to Arrest
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a dedicated team from the crime branch, under the supervision of Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, spotted two suspicious individuals on a motorcycle along the roadside. The duo, later identified as Tohid Khan and Rakhman Qureshi, exhibited nervous behavior upon noticing the police presence, prompting officials to intercept and question them. During the initial interrogation, their inconsistent responses raised red flags, leading to a thorough search.
This search proved fruitful, as officers discovered a transparent packet containing 53.57 grams of MD drugs in their possession. The swift action not only prevented the potential distribution of these substances but also highlighted the effectiveness of proactive policing in curbing drug-related crimes.
Accused Details and Modus Operandi Revealed
The arrested individuals, Tohid Khan and Rakhman Qureshi, are residents of Nagjhiri in Ujjain and have educational backgrounds up to Class 12. While Tohid worked as a laborer, Rakhman was employed at a private garment factory, illustrating how individuals from diverse backgrounds can become entangled in illegal activities.
During further questioning, the accused confessed to their involvement in drug trafficking. They admitted to procuring the MD drugs at lower rates and supplying them to addicts in Indore at inflated prices to generate quick profits. This revelation sheds light on the lucrative yet dangerous nature of the narcotics trade, which often preys on vulnerable populations.
Seizures and Legal Proceedings Under NDPS Act
In addition to the drugs, the police seized two mobile phones and the motorcycle used by the accused, bringing the total value of recovered items to around Rs 7 lakh. A formal case has been registered against Tohid Khan and Rakhman Qureshi under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the crime branch police station, ensuring that legal proceedings will be pursued rigorously.
This arrest is part of a broader initiative by the Indore crime branch to dismantle narcotics networks within the city. Since January 1 of this year, authorities have registered 19 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 37 accused, demonstrating a committed effort to combat drug-related offenses and enhance public safety.
The intensified actions underscore the police's dedication to eradicating the scourge of drugs from Indore, sending a strong message to potential offenders about the consequences of such illegal activities.
