Two notorious inter-state thieves were arrested in Telangana after a police team was attacked. One of the burglars was shot in the leg during the operation.
Details of the arrest
The accused were identified as Ravi Kumar and Suresh, both residents of Andhra Pradesh. They were involved in multiple theft cases across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The police team from Hyderabad's Cyberabad commissionerate had been tracking them for weeks.
On Wednesday, the police received a tip-off about their presence in the Shamshabad area. When the team tried to apprehend them, the accused attacked the police with knives. In self-defence, a sub-inspector fired at Ravi Kumar, injuring him in the leg.
Investigation and evidence
The police recovered stolen gold jewellery, laptops, and mobile phones worth Rs 15 lakh from their possession. The duo confessed to committing over 20 burglaries in the last six months. According to the police, the accused used to target locked houses in upscale localities.
The teams conducted extensive investigation in Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, including perusing footage of hundreds of CCTVs. The police also recovered a car used by the accused for commuting.
Both accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are being produced before a local court. The injured accused has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment.
